Yesterday, on the eve of Dad’s birthday, the family gathered at the Cefn Lla wood to look at the plantation where the oak tree dedicated in Dad’s memory is located. It is a wonderful valley full of Spring flowers and bird song above the village of Usk. It reminded us all of the farm we grew up and the land that Dad loved to work. After walking through some 36,000 newly planted trees, we had a picnic in the dappled sunshine with a piece of Henry’s sponge (which he loved to make for Dad) and a cup of tea on the banks of the woodland. Cows were our only company. We hope to make this an annual event to keep his memory alive and to remember the tremendous tribute that everyone has paid to him through their generous donations, we would not have been there without them. Thank you to everyone, it feels like a positive, special and importantly for us all, poignant legacy – an oak in a beautiful, peaceful valley.
